WuZhong Economic Development Zone |
Wuzhong District, situated in the south
of Suzhou , administers 13 towns, 1 nation-level Taihu
Lake Tourism & Vacation Zone, 1 provincial level economic
development zone. It has 770 km 2 of land area, 1400 km
2 of Taihu Lake water area, and a population of 535,000.
In 2003, its GDP was 18 billion yuan, the local budget
revenue registered 1.11 billion yuan.
Wuzhong District enjoys a long history,
well-developed culture, picturesque landscape and abundant
natural resources. Wuzhong District has 6 out of 13 scenic
zones in the Taihu Lake area that are under the development
plan of State Council. Over 100 historic sites and places
of interests scatter in the district. In the recent years,
Wuzhong District has been accelerating the development of
around-Taihu Lake tourism. Characteristic tourism programs
such as Taihu Lake landscape, ancient town and village, modern
recreation etc. have been popular more than ever. Taihu Lake
is a tourism, vacation and recreation place known at home
and abroad which attracts more than 3 million domestic and

Economic Development
Zone as the ˇ°dragonheadˇ± an industrial belt south of Suzhou
city has taken shape. New & high-tech industries and
green environmental urban industries such as electronics & information,
biopharmaceutical, new materials and precision machinery
are the key development industries that attracted over 1000
foreign invested enterprises from more than 20 countries
and regions. The total investment was over 7 billion USD. |
