Jinchang District covers an area of 37 km 2 with a population of 207,600. There are 5 communities, 37 neighborhood committees under its jurisdiction. Beijing-Shanghai railway, 312 national highway and Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway pass through its territory. Prominent tourist attractions and cultural relics include Tiger Hill, Lingering Garden , East Garden and Hanshan Temple etc.
Jinchang District's GDP in 2003
was 3.2 billion yuan and the local budget revenue registered
370 million yuan. The year of 2003 witnessed the registration
of 1,213 new corporations (not including individual firms),
with an increased registered capital of 1.5 billion yuan.
The first district-level administration service center in
Suzhou City was established, which enhanced the service quality
and efficiency. Community information management system was
popularized, which resulted in the noticeable improvement
of community services. 1 st phase construction of 127,000
m 2 area for the renovation of Shilu Commercial Area has
been completed. Test phase project for preservation of Shantang
Canal and Street Historical Block has been completed, and
the 2 nd phase project is launching on the basis of experts
argumentation and experience summarization. Suzhou Logistic
Park is being planned to be constructed in Baiyangwan Area.
