Three universities of China and aboad, Xi'an Jiaotong University, UK University of Liverpool, and Xi'an Jiatotong Liverpool University, and Suzhou Municipality signed a series of cooperation agreements on scientific and technological education on April 19 in SIP. 9 enterprises are involved in the cooperation that amounts to 60 million RMB in operation fund. Present in the signing ceremony were Yan Li, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee a Mayor of Suzhou, and Wang Jinhua, Chairman of Municipal Political Consultative Conference and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee.
Agreement was first signed between Xi'an Jiaotong University and Liverpool University on the exchange of teachers and 8 research projects in recyclable energy, bio-pharmacology, and "technological innovation by enterprises in university science park". Some of the research projects will be carried out in Suzhou. The university of Liverpool, according to Xi Xiumin, Vice-president of Xi?an Jiaotong University, is a research-oriented school with 8 Nobel Prize winners at its faculty.
In March 2005, Suzhou Municipal Government and Xi'an Jiaotong University jointly established Suzhou research institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University, which, within 3 years, set up 9 scientific research platforms such as "national engineering research enter from speedy manufacturing" and "Suzhou research center of national major laboratory for electrical equipment and power insulation". At the ceremony the research institute signed agreement with 9 enterprises, including SIP Venture Capital Investment Co., Ltd. and Jiangnan Elevator Group, on scientific research, industrialization of research results, and training.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mayor Yan Li assured the schools and enterprises of consistent support from the municipal government, and hoped that more prestigious universities form China and abroad would join in the cooperation. Leaders from Xi'an Jiaotong University, University of Liverpool, and Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University attended the signing ceremony.
