Wen Jiabao Executive Member of Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, came to Suzhou International Science Park on the morning of July 5 on inspection and investigation on the construction and development of scientific and technological carriers. This is the second time Premier Wen came to visit the science park in four years.
In the exhibition hall of the science park, Wen survey the sketch map of the park and listened to the introduction on the construction of scientific and technological carriers, the service to enterprises and the latest achievements in technological innovation. The premier was here in March 2004, when the science park had only 100,000 square meters area and some 100 enterprises with a total staff of 3,000. Four years passed with the park expanded to 1.08 million square meters, stationed with 271 enterprises and 14,000 hi-tech personnel. Now, as am important highland of technological innovation in the Yangtze delta region, the science park is the home of 60% of Suzhou's software development enterprises and 90% IC designing enterprises.
With keen interest, Premier inspected the latest achievements in software development, IC designing, and animation industry. Wang Rong, Executive Member of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee accompanying the premier on the inspection, told the premier in a figurative way that a scientist could start his career here with merely one laptop computer, and Wen nodded with praise. Wen stopped from time to time to ask questions about the new hi-tech products, and before the end of the tour, a red display screen caught his attention, and when he learned it was a hi-tech electronic signature system, he readily agreed to sign his name in it to leave a memento of his visit.
