At a news release at SIP International Science Park on July 10, Ori Animation Company announced the completion of "The Coins", which is the first 3D animation film in China through independent original creation. This 100-minute-long film, which took 20 months to produce at the cost of 25 million yuan RMB, will be put on debut show at Suzhou Science & Culture Center on July 19, and from July 25, it will be shown simultaneously at 300 movie theaters throughout China.
Chinese elements are a striking feature of the film "The Coins" both in the creation of characters and ideas. In the story, a group of impersonated ancient Chinese coins gather in a study room of the same age and, through conflicts to unity, they fight together to rescue lives of others, bringing out the theme of "value based on existence" and the traditional Chinese virtues of solidarity,, righteousness, and dedication.
What makes the animation film special is that the creation and story narrative, including the script writing, execution, and post-production, are all completed independently by Ori Company in the true sense of original creation by Chinese producers. It is an indication that China is now fully capable of producing 3D animation films despite the technological barriers posed by overseas producers. It is a milestone in the history of Chinese animation film production.
Qian Feng, GM of Ori Animation, expressed at the news release that "The Coins" has chartered a completely new path in adapting the traditional stories and given the audience a brand-new visual experience, and that the show will boost the confidence of Chinese animation film producers in catching up with the advanced level of the world. The film is also a significant breakthrough in the creative industry in Jiangsu Province and an indication that Suzhou has been in the lead in 3D animation production in China.
