Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway, designed as a speedy public commuter transport, will commence construction on July 1. The distance of the railway within the Boundaries of Suzhou will be 73.6 kilometers, with stops at SND, Suzhou, SIP, Yangcheng Lake, Kunshan South, and Huaqiao, and reserved stations at Wangting East and Weiting West by overpasses.
The railway is expected to be completed by July 2010, and by then will be daily running 6 trains stopping at 6 major stations and 27 trains stopping at every small station, the former at the speed of 250 km/hr and the latter 160 km/hr. It will take something like 60 minutes from Suzhou to Nanjing and 15 minutes to Shanghai, and it will like taking the public transport for passengers from Suzhou to other cities like Wuci, Changzhou, Zhenjiang, and Nanjing.
Earlier, the construction of Beijing-Shanghai Express Railway started on April 18. The section within Suzhou boundaries is 59.923 kilometers long, built on overpass throughout, with two stations, Suzhou and Kunshan. By the completion of the railway 5 or 6 years later, it will take only 5 hours to travel from Suzhou to Beijing, saving 9 hours? time, and one hour to Nanjing.
