Suzhou Rail Transit Line 3 began official operation at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 25 after nearly five years of construction.
Line 3 runs through Suzhou New District (SND), Gusu District, Wuzhong District and Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). It is a main line of the Suzhou rail transit system, connecting not only such hubs along the Shanghai-Nanjing Inter-city Railway as Suzhou Xinqu Railway Station, Suzhou Yuanqu Railway Station and Suzhou West Bus Station, but also SND’s central urban area, Canglang New Town’s commercial center, Wuzhong District, and SIP’s Huxi (west of Jinji Lake) area.
The line has set up 37 underground stations along its U-shaped route which traverses 45.214 kilometers from Suzhou Xinqu Railway Station to Weiting Station. The average distance between stops is about 1.2 kilometers.
