The Garden of Cultivation is located No.5 Wenya Nong in front of Tianku within Changmen Gate in Suzhou City (which is now accessed through the Ten Galleries House). It was listed as National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the State Council in 2006, and in 2000, as the supplement to Suzhou Classical Gardens of World Cultural Heritage, it was recorded on the list of the world heritage by UESCO.
The garden occupies an area of 3,800 square meters. It is divided into an eastern section of residence, noted for ancient halls and buildings such as Shilun Hall, and a western garden section, which takes a pond as the center, simple and open, with many structures of the Ming Dynasty remained. The 700m2 Pond is square with two water tails to give the illusion of infinite size. These tails are crossed by a three step arched bridge southeast to the Fry Pavilion. To the south of the pond stands an artificial hill built with earth, with cliffs made of lake rocks. At the north of the pool is "Yanguang Pavilion (Light Prolongation Pavilion)". Five waterside houses suspend over the water, unique in style. This is the biggest waterside pavilion in all Suzhou gardens. On the east of the house there are halls on both sides. They are respectively referred to as the "Yanggu Hall", "Sijing Hall". North of waterside pavilion is the main hall, namely, Hall of Erudition and Elegance, which is as wide as 5 houses, and typical of the building style in the Ming Dynasty. Southwest of the pool is the "the Sound of Moon Verandah", which leads to a small southwest courtyard called “Qin Lu (Celery Court)”. The "South Study" is opposite to a "Sweet Grass Hall". On banks of "Bath Gulls Pool" are scattered with rocks, flowers and trees, which is the most quiet place of the garden.
