On May 2, a drive-in movie theater opened at Yangcheng Lake Peninsula Tourism Resort, which is the first of its kind in Suzhou. The first-night show attracted a lot of viewers who watched movies in the comfort of their own automobiles.
The film carnival for drive-in audiences will last for 3 months, which is part of the city’s efforts to boost its nighttime economy brand “Gusu 8:30 p.m.” to enrich residents’ nightlife and boost consumption after dark.
Jin Jie, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and director of the Publicity Department, attended the opening ceremony.
During the May Day holiday, movie goers can buy tickets at a discounted price of only 99 yuan per car for three movies one night. In the following three months, the drive-in cinema will open at 19:00 every Friday and Saturday and on statutory holidays. Viewers need to purchase tickets in advance through a WeChat mini-program called “Hui You Ban Dao”.
